Description:

In the mountains of the Trans-Ili Alatau there are lots of picturesque lakes. One of them is a Big Almaty Lake. It is very beautiful, especially early in the morning, when blue surface is perfectly calm and it reflects the sky and surrounding mountains. Kazakh name of the lake is Zhasylkol, which means in translation – Blue Lake. It is situated in the middle part of the same gorge, at an altitude of 2511 meters, its depth is 35 meters in length – about 1 km, width – up to 500 m. Water temperature in summer is 10-12 degrees Celsius. Like the vast majority of lakes in the Tien Shan have been caused by earthquakes. On the lake rise the three main peaks that can be seen from the northern end of the dam: the peak of the Soviets (4317 m) – in the southeast, Lake Peak (4110 m) – in the south, up the river valley, the peak Tourist (3954 m) – to south-west of the lake. To the west of the peak Tourist there is a crest of peak Big Almaty, a pyramid in height З681 meters which is well visible from city centre.
Excursion to the Big Almaty Lake is interesting at any time. Even in the winter when its water is covered by ice and snow, it admires with the open space and mystery. You will see severe beauty of mountains, will get acquainted with an animal and flora, learn history of opening and development of this edge, its present and the future.\
